A leap of faith – a young boy’s story

Tears and a protest

There was going to be a major meltdown in the doctor’s consulting room. I looked at my son, then turned to the doctor.
“How long will it take to heal?” I asked.
“About six weeks”, he responded.
This wasn’t good news considering that Favour had an international competition coming up in two weeks; he needed his legs ‘working’. The injury, sustained during an evening play of football with his friends, showed up in the x-ray as a tiny fracture in one of his toes. The doctor, a very kind paediatrician, showed us the taping method and recommended we see the specialist; an orthopaedic doctor.

From the mouth of babes..

Favour was having none of it. After months of training, he was not going to give up because of the injury which was clearly causing him to limp in pain.
“I have to go to the competition, Mum!” , he said.
“You can always go next year, right now we have to focus on your toes getting better”, I said in a consoling voice.
“It’s only for primary school pupils Mum, and next year I’ll be in secondary school!”. More tears flowed.
“Hmmm…that’s true”, I said.
Suddenly, he wiped his tears and spoke with all the confidence he could muster, “I am going to Dubai in Jesus’ name! ” He looked at me expectantly and I said “Amen”, albeit hesitantly. Limping as he walked into the house and up the stairs, he turned and made the same declaration. His brother and I echoed his ‘Amen’.

Faith that moves mountains

Miraculously, a visit to the Orthopaedic doctor the next day revealed no fracture. It was definitely there the day before, but had disappeared. Instead there was a small bruise, for which we still needed to keep taping his toes together to aid healing. True to his belief, and God’s response to this child’s faith in Him (despite the prognosis) Favour went on to compete in the World Primary School Games held in Dubai two weeks later in February 2018.

His LEAP OF FAITH, earned him a silver medal in High Jump. His school team came 2nd place overall in the championship.

So proud of you Favour. You continue to dream big, work hard, push through challenges and show through your actions that you trust and believe in a big God. As you celebrate your 11th birthday, we are wishing you a year filled with wonderful testimonies and breakthroughs.

What are you believing God for?

I love when God uses the small, almost forgotten and simple things like a child’s unwavering faith in Him, and determination to show us that all things are possible in Him. If you are a believer encourage and show your children that they can trust in God for both the big and small. As they start the school year they will need help and guidance in their everyday activities. Knowing that they know enough to seek Him, and go to Him in prayer will do wonders for their self-worth and confidence. It will also be a great comfort to you as a parent when you’re away from them. Also don’t discount the seemingly small, less showy, or not as popular things, events or people. The key is the big God who’s just waiting and looking for those who put their trust in Him to show His might and power.
